2.5 Gallon Fish Tank

An aquarium adds more life and vision to our room. A 2.5 Gallon fish tank is one of the examples. To have an aquarium is very easy but to maintain it becomes difficult at times. For fishes to stay healthy they need clean water as well as food and the overall cleanliness should also be maintained in the aquarium.

It is quintessential to check how the water is most of the time in the aquarium. This doesn’t necessarily means everyday but it’s good to keep an eye on the state of water in general. Once a week check should serve the purpose and will make our aquarium clean and healthy.

Apart from cleanliness, other issue is for the holding capacity of an aquarium. There are a few methods by which one could reveal the holding capacity of an aquarium. The most common thumb rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water. Small community fishes like bettas, Rainbow fish and Tetras could easily survive in one inch vicinity rule as the name suggest community fish. On the contrary, some larger fishes like Oscars, Piranhas and Koi and marine fishes like Klein’s butterflies, Bangai Cardinalfish and some cold water fishes like Goldfish and Dragonfish, finds it more difficult to breathe and survive in the one inch rule in a 2.5 Gallon fish tank.

Another method of calculating how many fishes should reside in the tank would be weight per volume of water which is 1 gram of fish per every 4 litres of water, fish length per surface area and fish length to filter capacity. All of these above mentioned methods may vary and depends on the size and conditions given. Some fishes are more demanding in nature and feel the issues of space and area/territory while some are friendlier in nature and can survive without these psychological issues.

Some very common methods and steps to check the cleanliness are as follows:

1) Always use a small bucket to remove the water from the aquarium. One has to be careful as not to hurt any fish in the process. Sometimes while doing this, decorations and filters could also be removed, so careful consideration must be given in this regard. The most suitable way is to use a hose or siphon to remove the waters.

2) Check the color of water and smell to determine when is the appropriate time to change the water. Sometimes the time is due but the water is clean and looks healthy hence no need to change the water.

3) One must not forget to clean the very bottom of aquarium as most of the fragments and particles remain at the bottom. Also sometimes we over-feed our fishes or in other terms they are eating less hence all the waste is going and accumulating at the bottom which needs clearance.

4) Always check your filters as they play a very important role in the hygiene of the aquarium. Try to change them once a month as sometimes it gets blocked by particles inside.

5) Outside of aquarium and inside walls should also be cleaned but careful consideration must be given in order to the cleaner as most of the glass cleaners contain hazardous chemicals.

If we consider these small issues, our 2.5 inch gallon fish tank would remain healthy.
