Choosing the correct fish tank is complicated process. A fish tank should be of an adequate shape and size. Size of a fish tank is of utmost importance because that will determine its placing in the house. Another important consideration is whether to use glass or acrylic for the aquarium. Glass is a better known material for fish tanks but many fish enthusiasts do not have much information regarding acrylic fish tanks.
Acrylic fish tanks can be classified as being better a compared with glass in terms of their shape. An octagon or hexagon or any other difficult shape can be easily made with acrylic. The slides of acrylic which form different sides of the aquarium are joined together with a special type of cement that is manufactured from acrylic as well. This cement makes the tank completely leak proof. This feature of having a versatile design opens a fine door to fish enthusiasts as it provides them with the opportunity to make a tank which they like or just be innovative! Moreover, acrylic is also a much better insulator as compared to glass. Such a material can help keep the tank at a reasonable temperature therefore reducing any costs associated with raising or lowering the temperature of the water.
But it would be wrong to say that there are no disadvantages of the acrylic fish tank. These tanks are easily scratched and hand marks can easily be made on them. In order to overcome this cumbersome problem a special material is used. This material is created especially for the purpose of cleaning acrylic tanks. Another disadvantage is that these tanks are highly flammable. Therefore it is recommended that you do not take matches, lighters, candles or any sort of flame near these tanks so as to avoid the danger of a fire. Another drawback is that these tanks require special stands that need to be built for them so as to distribute the weight equally. But the biggest disadvantage these tanks have is in monetary terms. They are much more expensive than glass. The reason being they are more difficult to manufacture and are not readily available.
So if you want to have an acrylic fish tank, it is highly recommended that you surf the net to get all information regarding price, maintenance and a number of other factors before purchasing an acrylic tank.
But the bottom line is that despite all of their drawbacks it is quite reasonable to assume that acrylic tanks are the future of the fish tanks in this world.
